Memorandum
To: All Personnel
From: Ryan Cole
Reference: Insurance Rating
Effective 01/25/2007
Insurance companies and homeowners call the station on a regular basis inquiring about Skyland Fire Departments Insurance Rating or how close a structure is to a hydrant. Upon these inquiries a proper response to the individual would be as follows:
Skyland Fire Department is a Class 4 Insurance Rating irregardless of the proximity to a hydrant within 5 miles of any Skyland Fire Department station.
Refer the insurance company to the Insurance Service Office PTC Manual which states the following:
Skyland Fire Department
Revision Date: 8/1/06
County Name: Buncombe County
New PPC: 4 / 9
Territory Code: 110
Footnotes: Primary fire department response is provided by the Skyland Fire Department stations 1,2 and 3. Hydrant distance requirement does not apply due to an alternate, creditable water supply within 5 road miles of the following stations: Skyland stations 1,2 and 3.
The above information has been taken from the PTC Manual verbatim. Make sure that the insurance company is checking the footnotes in the PTC Manual.
The only area’s which are classified as a Class 9 are those which are in the 6 mile district, which means the location is over 5 miles from any Skyland Fire Department station. At the time of the last survey there were only a few structures outside the 5 mile district. If you are unsure if the structure is over 5 miles from a station or if they need further information you can refer them to Ryan Cole at extension 302. They can also contact the ISO Mitigation Office at 1-800-444-4554
